All my puppies at BlackForest Labs will be started on Iams Large Breed puppy food (lamb and rice).
Puppies eat on caloric
demand when they are in a rapid state of growth, they will eat whatever doesn't
bite them first, they eat twice a day A.M. P.M. about 3/4 to 1 cup each feeding,
in about 2 weeks you can increase this amount by 1/4 cup each meal, By 3 months
of age your pup will be eating about 3 cups total and by 4 months between
4 or 5 cups, if the puppies stool becomes soft you are over feeding cut back
about 1/2 cup total and see how that works.
Between 4 and 6 months of age, you may notice your puppy is not eating as
much.
Sometimes this is interpreted
by the owner that the dog is bored, this is not the case, what is happening
is the metabolic physical growth slows down and the puppy is shedding his/her
teeth for the permanent adult set.
Whether you continue to
feed your pup with the Iams or some other high end kibble keep him/her on
the following and vitamins.
400 mg of vitamin E -never increase the dosage.
* This boosts the immune system and when given from puppy hood until adulthood
has been shown to decrease cancer and has been known to eliminate old age
cataracts.
1000 mg of vitamin C daily- increase this dosage as he/she grows, he/she should
be on 2000 mg a day, they sell them in 1000 mg capsules, break them in half
and give morning and evening. When he/she is eventually on 2000 mg give 1
pill A.M. 1 pill P.M.
* This boost the immune system and also has been shown to prevent joint problems,
even old age arthritis.
Canned Mackeral- (give at least 3 times per week )
* This is great for eyes and coat, kibble does not contain near the amount
they need, which can cause dry flaky skin.
Corn Oil- ( put 1/2 teaspoon on food )
* For shiny healthy skin and coat
